What is cloud?

What is Cloud? Where is the Cloud located? etc. You must have heard these questions somewhere or you have asked yourself.

In its simplest terms, cloud computing means that data and programs are stored and accessed over the Internet instead of on your computer's hard drive. So "Cloud" is a metaphor for the Internet.

Cloud computing is not your hard drive. Storing data or running programs on your hard drive is called internal storage and computing. Practically speaking, everything you need is close at hand. This means you can access computers from one computer on your local network more quickly and easily.

Storing data on a home or office network does not count as cloud use. (However, some NAS devices will allow you to access things remotely over the Internet, and to make this confusing, at least one brand from Western Digital has the "My Cloud" name.)

Acommon instance of CLOUD

  • Google drive: This is a pure cloud computing service, all storage is online, so it can work with other applications like Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Google drive can be used not only on desktop computers, but also on all types of tablets and mobile phones. Most of Google's services can be considered cloud computing. For example: Gmail, Google calendar, Google maps images, etc.
  • Apple cloud: Apple cloud service is a service to store and restore your email, contacts, calendar and other information online. All the information you need will be available on iOS, iPadOS, macOS or Windows devices (Windows users must have iCloud Control Panel installed).
  • Dropbox: This service has been a reliable file storage service for years

The aforementioned file copying and backup services, as well as Box, IDrive, and SugarSync, all work in the cloud. To learn more about cloud storage and file sharing programs, visit the links below
